Shopping Tips for you.
Make sure your shopping is comparing apples to apples...

  • Are your cellular shades washable?
Our Hunter Douglas Duettes and Comfortex Symphony Cellular, light filtering, Shades
can be washed in the bathtub.  Less expensive brands cannot be cleaned and will have
to be replaced.  Which costs less in the long run?  Also, if all you want is an inexpensive
3rd world fabricated and locally cut down to size shade, that is fine.  We carry those as
well.  Just ask.

  • Are you faux wood blinds warranted by the manufacturer not to warp, crack, or peel?  What
materials are used to make your blinds?  There are a variety of materials on the market.
We carry about everything.  From off gassing PVC material that warps, for short term,
budget-minded situations,  to the very best in wood composites with wood
patterns from Comfortex and Hunter Douglas.  We will spend the time educating you and
making sure you get what you want and need.

  • What type of warranty comes with your drapes and top treatments?
Lafayette Window Fashions double inspects all fabric on a back lit machine.  They do
this because they offer a 5 year warranty on their work.  In our experience, you can
easily get 10 to 15 years at least out of their sewing.

  • Where are your window treatments made?  Which are custom and which are cut-downs?
Any made in 3rd world countries in standard sizes and then cut down to size stateside?
If you aren't told, look for clues such as no repair service is not offered (no access to
parts) as well as unreal sale prices (huge markups allow huge sales).  These shades
are not engineered to last and operate easily.  They are designed to be cut down; so
components may not be situated in the best place.
We have no problem with cut downs, so long as they are sold as cut downs.  Some
franchises will inflate the price of these cut downs to offer them as  comparable to Hunter
Douglas Duettes & Woodmates.

  • Why are blinds & shades offered for less over the Internet?
In reality, they aren't.  Internet companies do not offer in-home design service or
installation.  If something goes wrong, you must bear the effort and cost to mail them
back.  Some of these Internet services have the audacity to recommend us to fix the
problem.  We get calls for help from all over.

  • Why don't they honor the warranties of products they've sold or their own warranties?
1.  They are cut downs and they don't have the parts.
2.  They sold a name brand knockoff so can't have it sent to the company because that company has
      no record of making it.
For example, if the Internet company actually sold you a real Hunter Douglas Duette, they would tell
you to mail it to Hunter Douglas for repair.  They don't.  They instruct their customers to send their
broken knockoffs to us for repair, which we can't - we don't have the parts.
