Somfy Wins 2009 Product of the Year
There are many differentways to operate your shades.
There are many ways to operate your motorized shades:

  1. If the motor is hard wired, a light switch could be installed to turn it on & off.  These
are often used with large shades requiring a stronger motor.
  2. Infra-red is the older method.  It works like your tv remote control.  Point & Click
downside: bright sunlight can scatter the beam so it won't work, cannot group
shades which makes it a little more time consuming, cannot connect to a computer,
timer or sun sensor for automatic operation upside costs less, can have a
zillion shades and they can all be operated independently--you cannot group them
  3. Radio Wave is newer and started off with some rough patches, like shocking the
neighbor's dog's collar, raising the garage door, etc. You get the idea. Luckily,
those are problems in the past.  Now,  you can quickly operate a group all at once-no
one at a time.  You can operate the shades with a bright direct sunbeam,  the whole
house can be wirelessly scheduled to timers, a computer, or a sunlight sensor.  True
energy efficiency and security cannot be achieved without radio wave!
  4. Hunter Douglas Platinum Technology combines IR & Radio Wave in one so you can
    enjoy the features of both!
  5. Z-Wave!  You and your shades can now communicate with each other and with other
appliances in your home over your home computer network.  Imagine telling your
shades to open from work or vacation.  Imagine your garage door light turning on to tell
your shades to lower, music start, lights turn on!  We are there!
